My Experience as LAS’ Marketing and Communications Intern

By Tiffany Chan
Summer Marketing and Communications Intern, LAS

Working at LAS allowed me to gain a new perspective and learn more about the communications, marketing, and municipal business field that will help me immensely in my future career. The staff was very supportive of my learning journey by providing me with new experiences and opportunities like no other. Having a place where I felt supported and welcomed helped me develop new skills along the way and grow professionally.

With the easing of COVID restrictions, LAS offered a flexible hybrid work environment where I had the opportunity to transition smoothly from the online environment to the in-person workplace. The in-person interactions with the monthly staff meetings and weekly team meetings helped a lot with teambuilding, which made everything feel more normal again.

My work focused on social media strategy development, assisting in creating promotion campaign leading up the in person 2022 AMO conference, as well as updating marketing materials. Streamlining our social media communications channels of LinkedIn and Twitter allowed me to grow engagement and grow LAS’ followers.  I enjoyed the creative freedom that I was given when designing materials since I could incorporate my touch into LAS.

The work I created was meaningful work that made a difference in the community with our offerings and services. Not only was I able to work on the backend of planning for the Natural Gas Procurement presentation for the Dufferin Country Treasurers Meeting and AMO Conference, but I was also invited to attend them. I always heard about our team travelling across Ontario to present to different municipalities and I finally was able to drive to Orangeville and experience the Dufferin Country Treasurers Meeting in person! Although I was not presenting and was just observing at this presentation, it allowed me to get a sense of the operation and interactions that happened during these meetings, which helped me learn more about the process and understand more about the organization.

LAS allowed me to take on new challenges through my role of Marketing and Communications Intern and allowed me to contribute to the work LAS does to assist municipalities across Ontario with solutions to challenges within their community.

Thank you LAS for being very welcoming and supportive through my journey and providing me with this amazing opportunity!
